About Freesound

What we do: Facilitate campus music scene and provide music practice space
Where: in Gardner, the basement of Main.

A bit of history

Freesound was co-founded in 1998 by Jesse McClelland and Garrett Shelton, both from the class of 2001. It emerged as a response to the existing music scene at Grinnell, aiming to foster a more inclusive, diverse, and transgressive subculture on campus. Driven by a DIY spirit and a focus on alternative and indie music, Freesound provided a platform for various musicians and bands to perform, practice, and record. Its inception was part of a broader movement challenging the existing musical and cultural norms within the college community.
